When it comes to football, these guys are pros. But despite sitting well within the top 10 FIFA World Rankings for eons, the Dutch are yet to win a World Cup final and… yet somehow, they explicably missed out on an invitation to Euro 2016 last year, a fact that has us at FRT scratching our heads and rubbing our collective eyes in disbelief. With the big names of Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord watching these Dutch league teams is a cracking display of total football prowess.
The land (and the pancakes) might be flat but the atmosphere here definitely ain’t! Those Dutch know how to enjoy themselves, and thankfully they’re happy to help us visitors do just the same. It’s the largest beer exporter in the world, but don’t fret, we’ve had a word and they’ve promised to hold some back for our groups. Phew.
Fancy a few lesser know facts? Here goes…
- The Dutch have been making cheese since 400 AD
- Gin was invented here! (they called it jenever)
- More than half their population lives below sea level
- After the Scandi’s, the Dutch are the biggest coffee drinkers in the world (well when you export most of your beer, it doesn’t leave you with much choice now does it?)
